We have been in business since 1907. Green & McClure is a four generation, family-owned, business with a direct succession of four fathers and sons.

About Us

1909 — 1907

Established in 1907, Green & McClure Furniture began as a partnership between W.B. Green and E.P. McClure selling home furnishings and household items like Edison Phonographs. When the company first organized, the store stayed open until midnight on certain days to accommodate the shift workers at the local mills.

From the beginning, the store also sold caskets and began arranging funerals and even operating an ambulance service. Eventually, McClure Funeral Service became its own standalone business and was sold in the 1960s.

Green & McClure Furniture has been a fixture in the community for over 100 years. During the Great Depression, the store sold wood burning stoves. During the 1950s, the store sold some of the first televisions purchased in Alamance County.

1960's — 1960's

In the 1940s, original partner E.P. McClure bought the store and passed it on to his son Griffin McClure not long after that purchase. Griffin's son Jim began taking over the business in the 1960s and was then followed by his own son Griffin in 2011.

Even a large fire in 1993 could not compromise what Green & McClure Furniture meant to its community. After the fire and under the leadership of Jim McClure, the business came back stronger than ever.
